Jess,
Seriously, now. Lest I am misunderstood, I say the following with my moral saber fully unsheathed, as you should know by now how I feel about Foley's conduct. But what is curious is the Demos' reaction.
I mean, surely you don't judge some one for their predilections? C'mon, now. What Clinton did was essentially the same thing, except Monica was a precious few years older. The page involved here is at the age of consent in many places.
And Foley is gay, but that shouldn't bother Demos. Demos wish every one were gay, or at least that there were a lot more homosexuals. That way, it would be easier to claim that such conduct is morally okay.
So, what's the problem? Foley wasn't a moralizer, like me. So, Republicans aren't all like me? That's the problem? That should be a good thing for Demos.
And when the Republicans got wind of the bad stuff, he resigned. So, what gives? You think Republican dinosaurs like me want the Foleys of the world in Congress. Hardly. And when we find out, they're gone.
Meanwhile, we have Demo icons such as Kennedy, Frank, Studds, Clinton.
Demos need to back away from the Moral Bong. Y'all haven't built up enough tolerance of the stuff to hold yer licker, if you know what I mean.
Posted by: dc at October 4, 2006 11:59 AMThe wrong part of the post was in reference to the "rough rider" award surely even an old cynic like yourself, and I say that lovingly DC sees some humor in this.
I promise you that I would and will go after any politician and point out ironies such as these regardless of party or office. I myself have found a higher power of my own understaqnding and can do business with him. I believe that my morals have improved since I did this.
What I am saying in short is that I tend to hold people to my standards and most fail.

I understand the "rough rider deal". Yes, that's humorous. I just think that, if you're honest, you have to ask yourself why most Demos thought what Clinton did was no big deal and with Republicans, Foley is gone immediately when the dirt comes out. Republicans don't tolerate such stuff, and Demos blame Republicans when Clinton gets caught weenie-diddling with a girl his daughter's age.
I don't think there is much debate that there is a double-standard for Demos.
Posted by: dc at October 4, 2006 02:38 PMThere is double standard anywhere that you look. I promise you that the double standard that you feel only belongs to demos long extends over party and sexuality lines. Do I think that what Bill Clinton did with an intern that was his daughter's age was right?
Hell no. Do I think Barney Frank playing grab ass is right? Hell No. Do I think that this should be far more than a partisan debate? Absolutely.
To me people that are making this partisan are not only trying to ruin this election cycle but they are trying to ruin this country that I love very deeply. That is my anger. I am not only making fun of republicans here, I am making fun of the system.

Posted by: jess @ losli.mu.nu at October 4, 2006 03:47 PMJess,
I come around because you're a good guy. If all Demos were like you, we'd be better off. I think you saw that the Kos-Stituents wanted to Knight Jerry Studds. Man ...
Well, we'll see where it goes. Hope all is well in your world. You are welcome to drop by and comment any time. I always appreciate your thoughts and your time.
Posted by: dc at October 4, 2006 06:41 PMThanks DC. Truth is, there is very little room in todays political system for moderate voices. I believe that most of us are somewhere in the middle, yet the voices we hear on both sides that seem to be not only screaming the loudest but, getting the most coverage are from the radical voices in the respective camps.
Yes, I do have some radical thoughts, though most are follpwed up by a snap back into reality. Thanks for stopping by.

Posted by: jess @ losli.mu.nu at October 4, 2006 08:36 PMTo hell with the "Rough Rider" irony. I'm more worried about The Ripon Society.
Posted by: Rhod at October 5, 2006 04:27 AMI hear you Rhod.
Posted by: jess at October 5, 2006 07:42 AMThere are moderates? Where? Are they actually participating in the political scene? No. I thought not. We're just here...moderating, I guess.
